Santa Teresa is a well-known surfing destination. One of Santa Teresa’s best beaches is Playa Carmen which you’ll find at the end of the street from the hotel. It owes its reputation for great swimming and surfing due to its clean, rock-free waters. There you will also find the El Carmen Restaurant and Beach Club which offers French-inspired food and fantastic sunset cocktails and views.

You can catch the surfing schools active in the area throughout the day with young crowds that arrive from all over the world to experience this amazing scene. Why not take a surfing lesson of your own?

The Santa Teresa area is amazingly easy to access. After landing in San Jose’s Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) by any of the world’s major airlines and walking for three minutes to the Domestic Terminal, you will board one of two internationally-rated airlines which fly Cessna’s 12-seater Caravan turboprop workhorses that will zip you to Tambor Airport and which is just a 22 minute ride away.

We recommend you fly our travel partner Green Airways which has all new planes and a robust customer service. Its competitor Sansa Airlines has over five decades of spotless flying in Costa Rica. Combining both airlines there are over 14 daily flights each way during the high season and the frequency drops somewhat in the off-season.

While in the air, catch some of the most amazing views of beaches and keys you’ve seen including the Tortuga Island which is accessible for a boat-ride lunch tour. We hope you also spot the bioluminescent beach on one side of the airplane and the expansive waters of the Gulf of Nicoya out the other window, which hosts whale migrations twice a year as they visit the area to breed in warmer waters.

Finally, at the Tambor airport you can either rent a Budget car or take a $60 cab for a 30 minute scenic ride into town. If you want to catch a private ride, please use Pantera Taxi which can be reached via message to arrange for pick-up in advance. Once you’re in the hotel you don’t need a car to experience the area. Be mindful that walking down the only main road through the town during “rush hour” can be tricky, so make sure to ask at our front desk.

Santa Teresa is also a foody destination. A few steps from our hotel on the beach you will find El Carmen Restaurant and Beach Club, a great place to enjoy the famous sunsets of Santa Teresa, accompanied by music that often includes presentations by live artists from the area
